In Chicago, kitchen gardens are planted on the rooftops. There are over 200, representing around 23 hectares of agriculture in the city centre! The future will also include vertical farms.
Rather than horizontal agriculture, the concept is more one of vertical expansion by refusing the use of destructive chemicals in soils, an element specific to traditional agriculture, and replace it with above-ground farming. Buildings have not finished evolving and we must anticipate and adapt.
